Job Function:
Edit rough or "finished" copy in manuscript form; proofread all agency promotional material at all stages of production, form concepts to mechanicals; work closely with traffic coordinators (and writers/art directors) to complete jobs accurately but expediently to meet designated deadlines. Act as a primary reader with Director of Editorial Services.

Job Responsibilities:
  • As copy editor
    • Prepare manuscripts for final typing
    • Verify references
    • Check direct quotations and paraphrased statements against the original proof source
    • Make sure references are cited according to AMA style
    • Correct grammatical, syntactical, spelling and typographical errors
    • Question ambiguities and inconsistencies in copy style
    • Add registered/trademarks, logos generics, copyrights, code numbers, dates, fair balance and warning statements required by individual clients and/or the FDA
    • Review all corrections and suggested editorial changes with copywriter
  • As proofreader
    • Correct all typographical, spelling, grammatical and syntactical errors
    • Check that all typeset copy corresponds exactly with final client-approved copy
    • Check type style(s) for consistency and sense (correct size and boldness to correspond to emphasis in copy), use of upper and lower case, use of italics, placement of generics
    • Be sure characters in type proofs are clean and properly aligned
    • Proofread each job at every stage of development (initial concept copy and layout, full typed copy, reader’s proofs, graphics [including charts, tables and graphs] and copy placement in comps and mechanicals, engravings and blueprints)
Qualifications:
  • BA degree or equivalent experience
  • Good communications skills
  • Excellent organizational and analytical skills
