Description:
Position Summary
Senior editors review concepts, manuscripts, layouts, disk printouts, and bluelines.

Principal Responsibilities

• Reading for clarity, grammar, and spelling
• Proofreading
• Fact checking claims
• Conforming text to FDA regulations, American Medical Association style, and client style
• Senior editors should be a resource for editors, assistant editors, and proofreaders regarding general editorial matters (eg, consulting on issues of FDA regulations, style, and usage)
• Senior editors should lead by example

Account Responsibility

• Senior editors should be able to comprehend technical/scientific articles, and they should understand the reading level of the intended audience
• Senior editors are responsible for creating and maintaining a style/claims sheet for each of their products

Required Competencies

• Proficiency in Word for Windows (PC)
• Flexible, creative problem solving
• Ability to deal with many varied personalities
• Ability to meet extremely tight deadlines (without compromising accuracy)
• Ability to juggle several projects at once
• In general, senior editors should be proactive, organized, and professional.

Qualifications

• Required:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Proven strong copyediting and proofreading skills
  • Knowledge of AMA style and FDA regulations
  • Ability to self-manage
  • Comfort with client contact
• Preferred:
  • Interest in managing other editorial staff
