Description:
The VP of Business Development is accountable for all responsibilities related to new business development in support of the business unit’s revenue goals. This person will interact with internal and external players. This position is responsible for leadership and performance of the sales and business development activities.
Responsibilities
- New business development
- Develop an annual sales and business development plan aligned with the annual operating plans of the group and company.
- Support the group’s overall business strategy by providing leadership and direction in all matters related to sales and business development.
- Grow the business commensurate with business opportunity.
- Analyze the market and market opportunities, recommend opportunities.
- Build inter-company relationships to maximize opportunities for the business.
- Develop excellent relationships with customers to convey support and confidence with regards to the company’s capabilities.
- Maintain and build strong customer relations with current customers.
- Ensure all sales and business development activities complies with company policies and all laws.
- Develop comprehensive capabilities presentation to promote the business.
- Report weekly on all new initiatives, activities and developments with respect to new business opportunities on a formal and day-to-day basis to the company management.
- Resolve customer concerns to maintain good working relations. The VP of Business Development will maintain a supportive rapport with the Account and Operations management to achieve this.
- Serve as mentor for account leaders in order for them better recognize organic growth opportunities.
- Other duties assigned by the direct reporting management including acquisition support, business planning and strategic activities.
- Must be a change-agent and team player, who can work closely with the team to introduce contemporary sales and business development practices to the group and help create high performance teams. The VP of Business Development needs to be a metrics-based person, who can ensure the implementation of solid systems and processes.
- Minimum of 7 years in a sales/business development role in a pharmaceutical environment.
- Robust current relationships such that the team can "hit the ground running" and source new business in the 2007 2008 operating cycle.
- Proven success in growing a business, with a distinct flair in identifying future opportunities.
- Technically adept, demonstrated ability to understand sales process, comprehensive knowledge of sales philosophies, operations and related technologies.
- Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills.
- Demonstrated deep understanding of costing and estimating philosophies.
- Excellent understanding and the ability to manage sales and expense budgets.
- Able to build effective partnerships with internal and external suppliers.
- Undergraduate degree in business/marketing.
