Description:
Our client is currently seeking two talented, experienced Director of Scientific Affairs, one person to focus on scientific affairs needs of their promotional medical communication company and the second staff member to be a part of their CME medical educational company.
Major Functions:
- Research, write, edit, and review scientific content to ensure scientific accuracy, relevance for target audiences, and alignment of content to the objectives of the activity.
- Identify, interact with, and negotiate with clinical faculty during the development of program content.
- Manage medical writers (internal and external) and editors and oversee department work flow, as well as providing quality control.
- Guide and mentor other members of the Scientific Affairs team, and provide background and support to all staff for proposals in a variety of disease states.
- Be available for onsite programs to manage faculty and content and for client meetings and presentations.
- Demonstrated expertise in identifying, interacting with, and negotiating with pharmaceutical medical marketing clients and clinical faculty during the development of program content.
- Passionate about the accuracy and clinical relevance of materials produced, and their ability to fulfill program objectives.
- Demonstrated a strong understanding of FDA regulations as applied to the pharmaceutical industry for promotional medical education, and ACCME/ACPE/CME regulations as apply to accredited medical education programs.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply adult learning principles.
- Experience with managing complex medical education program development in a variety of disease states.
- Able to learn new disease states rapidly.
- Knowledge of Internet resources for medical information.
- Knowledge of AMA style, refined computer skills (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Search engines).
- Demonstrated communication, coaching and mentoring, and client presentation/negotiation skills
- Be an enthusiastic, supportive member of the scientific affairs team, dedicated to making our scientific product clinically appropriate and innovatively delivered.
- Provide scientific experience and insight across a broad range of disease areas as designated by our company’s growing business portfolio.
- Be able to expand scientific / medical knowledge base into new clinical areas.
- Serve as a mentor to other members of the SA and editorial team and act as a scientific expert resource for all company colleagues
- Oversee the department workflow
- Research and write scientific needs assessments and disease state and market backgrounders tailored to educational grants and promotional initiatives
- Provide research and content development expertise for medical education projects specific to program style and media
- Provide on-site scientific support for faculty, slide reviews and programs
- Contribute to building a comprehensive medical library in the spirit of enhancing our access to scientific resources and innovative educational media
- Effectively communicate and coordinate within the project team structure to meet or exceed the agreed upon deadlines

- College or advanced degree in a medical/clinical scientific discipline
- Three to five years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience in medical research, medical education, pharmaceutical writing, or medical writing
- Insight into market and brand positioning of new medicines
- Strong computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, & database programs)
- Knowledge of AMA style
- Familiarity with promotional and ACCME regulations for medical education
