Role(s):
The primary responsibility of the Managing Director is to articulate and implement the strategic vision for the business unit in accordance with its mission and the overall mission. The Managing Director is responsible for the overall operations of the business unit. This includes maintaining and enhancing employee resources, achieving revenue and profitability goals, securing the necessary infrastructure, and working to improve overall operations. The Managing Director is the official representative for the business unit outside and within and will actively contribute to the overall direction and success.
Responsibilities:
- Internal Operations - Business
- Directs organizational operations of the business unit including issues management, capacity planning, infrastructure development, resourcing, etc. to ensure that client and employee needs are met.
- Creates and maintains financial tools to track and plan for capacity, revenue, and profitability in collaboration with the Finance Director.
- Delivers income and profit to forecast.
- Responsible for comprehension and proactive communication of critical business issues and their impact on budget and/or forecasts to senior leadership.
- Develops and implements ongoing marketing plans to promote the business brand.
- Understands and communicates key factors for business success and pro-actively identifies and addresses areas for improvement.
- Keep President apprised of key projects, new organizational opportunities, and personnel issues that have the potential to affect the specific business and/or any negative/positive impact.
- Work with the senior management team to explore and evaluate growth opportunities for the business in terms of current clients and new business development.
- Provides direction and motivation for the business through visibility, accessibility, communication and best practice coaching. Sets the example to promote high employee morale.
- Develops and implements talent management and company succession planning.
- Champions the performance management process and provides timely performance reviews for direct reports.
- Works with HR to recruit and maintain high performing talent for the business.
- Oversee Support Service areas (HR, Finance, Meeting and Event Services, IT) to ensure that they are meeting the needs of the organization.
- Retain and motivate high performing talent through employee initiatives, such as training and education that enhance employee morale and performance.
- A bachelor’s degree is required. An advanced degree in science or business is preferred.
- 10+ years of directly related experience with a minimum of 5 years of demonstrated success in a leadership role.
- Ability to motivate and partner with others and build consensus within the executive team.
- Ability to plan strategically with sound technical skills, analytical ability, good judgment and strong operational focus.
- Ability to analyze and understand financial models.
- Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive client or employee inquiries or complaints and facilitate conflict resolution
- Ability to speak effectively and deliver persuasive presentations to clients and internal staff.
- Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to manage ambiguity and the ability to translate theory into practical application.
- Demonstrated ability to achieve results through operational focus.
