Description:
Position Summary:
The successful candidate will be responsible for creating and overseeing educational content that is developed into live presentations, video, interactive CDs, and other multimedia and writing projects for clients in the pharmaceutical industry. A medical writer is responsible for content development from conception to completion, and is proficient at and accountable for all the necessary tasks, whether they are performed by the medical writer or by an editorial assistant. This position requires moderate communication with clients and adherence to multiple simultaneous timelines. Must have ability to multitask and handle multiple projects efficiently in a team environment.
Responsibilities and Principal Duties:
- Keep current with scientific findings and literature in the field of psychopharmacology
- Write and edit educational content for a wide range of uses
- Create PowerPoint presentations, videos, animations
- Perform literature searches and data analysis, using sound scientific judgment
- Coordinate the display of graphics and/or animations in material
- Write manuscripts, posters, books, newsletter articles, and background material for proposals
- Outline and storyboard concepts for content
- Work closely with internal and external personnel in developing content
- Develop advanced illustrations and animations with graphic artists
- Submit and discuss content-in-development with Medical Advisor for approval.
- Liaise with pharmaceutical client contacts to develop content and obtain feedback
- Implement revisions to projects as per client review
- May involve delegation of work to editorial assistant(s) and reviewing work by other writers
- Possess strong leadership and people-management skills
- A medical writer takes responsibility for scientific accuracy of developed materials
- A medical writer’s work goes through minimal review by other writers.
Job Demands:
- General knowledge in the neuroscience field and/or scientific fundamentals of biological, psychological, and pharmacological processes
- In-depth knowledge in at least one area of the neuroscience field and/or scientific fundamentals of biological, psychological, and pharmacological processes
- Experience in conducting literature searches and interpreting clinical studies and statistical data analyses is a must
- Teaching experience is a bonus
- Decisive, action-oriented, comfortable making decisions and recommendations in a high-uncertainty environment
- Results-driven and a passion for achieving high levels of performance
- Creative problem-solving skills, works well with minimal supervision, highly organized and dependable
- Detail oriented, excellent verbal/written communication skills; copyediting or proofreading experience a bonus
- Must work well under pressure and possess excellent employee interaction, communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work with all levels of management and accept constructive criticism
- Self-motivated worker who takes the initiative to assume responsibility and ownership of challenges and be self-driven to obtain resolution
Qualifications and Requirements:
- A PhD level of education is expected, or the equivalent in experience. Requires 2-5 years of writing experience in medical communications, scientific publications, or related field. A great deal of creativity is expected. Must be proficient in Microsoft Office, with a focus in PowerPoint. Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills and attention to detail.
