Description:
Position Summary:
The Scientific Director is responsible for completing and/or supervising the completion of all text and multimedia based educational and promotional projects requiring a high degree of scientific/clinical expertise in one or more medical disciplines in support of assigned client products. The Scientific Director will represent the department at all internal functions requiring expert input and knowledge of departmental resources necessary in the planning and completion of text and multimedia projects, and represent the company at client meetings at which scientific/clinical expertise is needed for the planning or acquisition of future projects.
Responsibilities:
- Manage, write, and/or edit multimedia projects in assigned areas of specialization. Medically direct projects for assigned products (eg, develop outlines and select references for writing projects; select participants and develop content for symposia and advisory boards; and moderate advisory board meetings)
- Work in conjunction with account and program management to develop logical and attainable timelines for project completion
- Manage individual workflow for assigned products and meet associated deadlines
- Provide direction to and supervise freelance contractors (eg, medical writers) on assigned projects
- Assume final responsibility for content of assigned projects, including relevance, technical accuracy, audience appropriateness, and product messages
- Conceptualize innovative initiatives to support marketing strategy while maintaining scientific integrity
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical science related to assigned products and their competitors; attend relevant medical/society meetings as appropriate
- Proactively identify marketing opportunities and implications through critical analysis and interpretation of medical literature
- Communicate and collaborate with key opinion leaders on programs to meet strategic objectives through relationship building, advocacy development, and use of marketing and scientific rationale
- Build strong client relationships; inspire client confidence
- Clearly communicate medical concepts in a condensed, audience-appropriate way to client and internal team
- Assist in new business development as needed
- In conjunction with the information services department, develop and maintain product databases (eg, Reference Manager) containing relevant medical literature
- Attend job start and status meetings for assigned products and programs
- Travel as required
- Excellent oral and written business communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills
- Willingness to assess the implications of medical educational projects with reference to market positioning
- Time management skills, including the ability to multi-task
- Ability to participate and interact effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Work independently and be self-motivated
- Must be organized and have attention to detail
- Masters Degree; advanced clinical or scientific degree (MD, PhD, PharmD) preferred
- Two to five years pharmaceutical medical education experience
- Specific therapeutic area experience will vary according to business needs and client assignments
- 25% travel required. Travel is both National and International in scope. Business trips are planned during the week and on weekends.
