Key Role:
The key role of the Executive Director of Business Development - Emerging is to cultivate new business in emerging pharmaceutical organizations where our client does not currently have a presence. The ED of Business Development does so by providing a consultative approach to a prospective client in designing and developing a commercialization roadmap, putting together the best parts of our client and their extended partner network. Credibly gets our client in the door early in the commercialization process.
Key Responsibilities:
- Drawing on the research and analysis of the business intelligence data and any other lead generation sources, identify new business opportunities with new and existing clients, partners, and industry influencers.
- Also drawing on that knowledge, identify key industry presence (e.g., conferences, key speaking engagements, other industry forums) in order to cultivate contacts and name ID.
- Implement a disciplined approach to developing, qualifying and prioritizing new opportunities. Focus on highest quality opportunities with the most senior client executives.
- Identify, profile, qualify and secure appointments with desired target executives.
- Architect the best commercialization offer for the client, combining sales and marketing capabilities as well as those within the integrating
- Present our client as a solutions oriented, service provider with capabilities that complement the client’s business goals and objectives.
- Get involved early in the relationship with the prospective emerging client, positioning our client as an end-to-end provider of market research, strategic advice and consultation, and in so doing, position our client as the natural partner of choice ("incumbent") to ultimately win CSO business opportunities.
- Foster the new business relationship gaining trust, commitment, confidence, and instilling the concept of our client as a business partner. Ensure client receives on time, high quality answers and responsiveness.
- Lead the end-to-end sales (business development) process including:
- Targeting
- Lead development and qualification
- Needs assessment
- Opportunity progress, ensuring collaboration and active participation of key internal stakeholders and subject matter experts
- Proposal development and pricing
- Negotiation and closing
- Contracting (together with Finance)
- Handoff / coordination in full and flawless execution
- Capture activity and pipeline
- 7+ years BD / sales experience, preferably in the pharmaceutical industry
- Credible professional with a strong background in consultative ‘solution’ selling (highly desired)
- Proven ability in product launch, ideally in a specialty or emerging company
- Proven experiences in commercialization (successfully bringing products to market)
- Ability to build and sustain high level relationships
- Strong analytical and integration skills
- Compelling communications style, both verbal and written
- Persuasive, consultative selling skills, preferably selling services
- Strong business and financial acumen
- Confident ambassador, able to deliver the story with conviction, passion and energy
- Patient, resilient, unrelenting, independent entrepreneurial spirit
- Strong competitive knowledge and able to ‘out-position’
- Superior skills in opportunity identification and creative in solution selling
- 4 year college degree preferably in marketing/business, MBA preferred
