Role(s):
The Editorial Assistant supports the Associate or Scientific Directors and their Account teams in the development of content materials for medical education activities. To accomplish this, the editorial assistant will interact directly with colleagues in Copyediting, Creative Services, Meeting and Events Services, and Finance.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct searches of the published medical literature and other sources of medical, marketing, and drug development information as directed by the Associate Scientific Directors or Scientific Directors.
- Assist with the creation of content under direction of the ASD/ SDs such as the compilation and organizing of statistics and findings from literature searches into specific tables and figures
- Understand client requirements for submission to medical/legal review, and assist with routing of content through the approval process, from assembly of submission package through incorporating medical/legal changes prior to final approval.
- Order, track, and archive published articles requested by ASD/SDs and other team members.
- Assist with obtaining publisher permissions to cite, use and reproduce copyrighted materials.
- Adhere to client policies and guidelines as they pertain to individual program components.
- Assist in the routing of editorial materials through copy editing and/or creative services.
- Make copyeditor/proofreader changes to manuscripts and other content-related materials upon approval from the ASD/SDs and check accuracy of changes made.
- Fact check content created by Creative Services, ASD/SDs, and freelance editors to ensure accuracy.
- Adhere to all policies and procedures.
- Minimum of one (1) year of editorial experience in medical/science or a Bachelor’s degree in related field (journalism, English, library or biological sciences) is preferred.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Adobe Acrobat, Reference Manager, and PowerPoint.
- Ability to research, identify, and retrieve internet sources of pharmaceutical/medical information.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work within tight deadlines;
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Dependable and uses good judgment.
- Experience in medical/science, publishing, or library environment.
- Familiarity with AMA style is recommended.
