Position Summary:
In this position the successful candidate shall be responsible for enhancing our client’s product portfolio by identifying new leads, managing business relationships, developing new business opportunities and executing deals. The BDM makes recommendations to senior management on how to advance the opportunities available. The BDM shall possess well-developed interpersonal communication, analytical, financial and problem solving skills. The BDM continually develops client relationships to increase sales.

Responsibilities and Principal Duties:
  • Responsible for developing new business revenue, working with our client’s research and development group to identify potential prospects and target areas of opportunity, develop sales tools and business development plans.
  • Develop and refine a proposal writing process that is capable of industry benchmark turnaround times.
  • Work closely with finance to develop project budgets that accompany our proposals.
  • Assist in building relationships with current clientele.
  • Responsibilities include evaluating, reviewing and proposing full service marketing solutions for medical education.
  • Collaborate with the project managers and account managers to ensure consistency of program delivery.
  • Interface and manage partner relationships to ensure efficient and effective programs that meet strategic initiatives and specific product releases.
  • Initiate the development of new business via presentations outlining the capabilities of our client’s focus to senior level marketing professionals within the medical education industry.
  • Responsible for all negotiations from initial client contact through client contract closing.
  • Function as a liaison with client, troubleshooting any contract issues.
  • Continually monitor and build on client relationship to further the scope of our client’s market penetration.
Job Demands:
  • This position requires extensive travel throughout the United States with a high level of activity in the East Coast area.
  • Candidates must be highly motivated with a strong desire to sell.
  • Good understanding of neuroscience and/or scientific fundamentals of biological processes.
  • Decisive, action-oriented, comfortable making decisions and recommendations in a high uncertainty environment.
  • Results-driven and a passion for performance through measuring and tracking against goals and objectives.
  • Creative problem-solving skills, works well with minimal supervision, detail oriented, highly organized and dependable, excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Must work under pressure and possess excellent employee interaction, communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work with all levels of management and accept constructive criticism.
  • Self-motivated worker who takes the initiative to assume responsibility and ownership of challenges and be self-driven to obtain resolution.

Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office with a very strong focus in PowerPoint. Excellent presentation, communication, sales, negotiation, and analytical skills.
  • Sales and/or marketing experience with the pharmaceutical and/or medical education industry.
  • Demonstrated sales success.
  • Extensive travel required.
  • No relocation provided.
Experience and Education:
  • Advanced degree in business or the life sciences strongly preferred.
  • Requires a minimum of 5-10 years of hands-on experience in pharmaceutical, medical education or in a related area.
  • Progressive experience should include at least four years of prior experience in business development, product marketing, and or sales.
Working Relationships:
  • Reports to and receives guidance from the president; interacts with other personnel, and frequently with outside vendors, clients and academic contacts.
