Description:


Role(s): The Copy Editing Manager, in collaboration with the Director, Creative Services is responsible for managing the copy editing workflow and overseeing the day-to-day operations of the copy editing function and personnel. Responsible for leading the proofreading and copy editing of all materials developed and for assuring adherence to all styles, formats, and templates. To accomplish these tasks, the CEM will interact closely with the account management teams, Scientific Directors, meetings and event services team, and creative team.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement innovative organization-wide processes and actions to improve CE department performance.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the CE department by assessing the workload and developing work plans for CE personnel that meet expectations of each client.
  • Manage information flow between CE personnel and account management teams, including monitoring of budget hours, project specifications, timelines and quality of work.
  • Analyze client (internal and external) expectations and identify and communicate CE personnel and resources needed, including estimation of hours, to ensure expectations are met.
  • Troubleshoot and identify action plans for copy editing challenges according to project schedules.
  • Manage the proofreading and copy editing of all materials developed.
  • Assure adherence to all styles, formats, and templates including brand standards and legal compliance.
  • Conduct research and verify data as needed to complete copy editing assignments.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures.
Qualifications:
  • A bachelor’s degree is required. A degree in English, journalism or the biological sciences is preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years of editing and/or proofreading experience, along with 2+ years of experience in management of copy editing process and personnel. Experience in medical marketing, medical communications and/or advertising agency areas preferred.
  • Must have extensive knowledge and experience with AMA style, along with conventional proofreaders’ marks and medical terminology.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills with demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent command of English language and grammar; proficiency with Microsoft Word and PowerPoint, and Internet sources of pharmaceutical/medical information.
  • High degree of initiative and self-motivation; able to complete assigned tasks with minimal direction; able to prioritize multiple tasks and work within tight deadlines.
