Primary client contact. Responsible for direct management of account staff and for leading the integrated team through diplomacy and influencing skills. Provides leadership and mentors designated account teams in order to retain and grow business. Fluent in brand strategy and market place; effectively uses this knowledge to influence clients to achieve brand objectives. Leads in the development and presentation of well-focused proposals based on a thorough understanding of the client. Ensures all work leaving the agency is aligned with project objectives and high quality expected of agency. Reviews all work before it leaves the agency and applies critical analysis to ensure it’s aligned with brand strategy and consistent with agency quality work; comfortable offering alternative directions and options to internal scientific staff and client that meet and exceed expectations. Manages financial aspects of existing business.

  • Brand/Market/Agency Knowledge
    • Demonstrates comprehensive understanding of Client’s business and actively seeks opportunities for further account development; brings together senior management/agency resources to assist in defining brand solutions and impactful presentations/proposals
    • Successfully serves as point of authority and/or source of advice for therapeutic area
    • Demonstrates and applies extensive and expert knowledge of assigned brands and therapeutic areas; Able to learn new therapeutic areas quickly
    • Provides strategic recommendations proactively to client
    • Demonstrates ability to integrate emerging technologies/innovative program ideas into client recommendations
  • Client Relations/Communications Skills
    • Leads account team activities in terms of strategy development and fostering team approach to ensure highest quality work is delivered
    • Establishes, maintains, and nurtures client relationships directly with assigned counterpart as well as with any other client staff, including and up to Product Vice President; fosters a value-added partnership; monitors client relationship development and participates in regular client reviews to determine satisfaction with agency performance
    • Proactively manages relationship with assigned clients and seeks opportunities to strengthen/build new relationships; Seeks opportunities to grow business within current accounts and into new accounts connected with that Client
    • Demonstrates expert presentation skills
    • Demonstrates ability to adapt to various Client corporate cultures
    • Effective, professional interaction with counterparts at partner agencies, in the U.S. and internationally
  • Strategic & Tactical Planning
    • Has the ability and bandwidth to see the big picture and identify the key/broad issues while still driving the process and details
    • Develops communication objectives & strategies (e.g. marketing/ brand platform briefs)
    • Responsible for overseeing tactical execution
    • Has advanced knowledge of marketing concepts & practices
    • Works closely with Scientific Services to design and develop an integrated strategic publications, meetings and data amplification plan for the thoughtful dissemination of scientific information; lead or execute discrete sections of the plan, incorporates appropriate print and digital components into the data management aspects of a scientific exchange strategy
    • Recognize and propose innovative delivery mechanisms for the release, amplification and distribution of scientific data
  • Project Execution
    • Champion for the brand and the organization
    • Evaluates agency work to ensure alignment with brand strategy/agency assignment; provides constructive comment/direction to ensure effectiveness of work
    • Effectively presents/sells agency work to the client
    • Demonstrates ability to simultaneously manage, prioritize and execute multiple complex project plans, adjusting internal timelines as needed to ensure milestones are reached, deliverables are finalized and client needs are satisfied
    • Keeps abreast of marketing/communications and brand-specific trends in order to offer added-value to the Client/creative product
    • Reviews all work before it leaves the agency and applies critical analysis to ensure it’s aligned with brand strategy and consistent with agency quality work; comfortable offering alternative directions and options to internal scientific staff and client that meet or exceed expectations
  • Financial Acumen
    • Aggressively monitors fee performance to ensure account profitability
    • Manages financial aspects of existing business including development and oversight of SOWS and utilization of staff time; prepares timely and accurate WIP and 1800 reports
    • Identifies/presents account forecast to senior management
    • Works proactively across departments and external vendors to present clear, competitive budgets for proposed projects
    • Assists in negotiations with client procurement personnel, as required
    • Owns the revenue and projections of the brand budget deployment
  • Manages account staff and client expectations to ensure a positive and productive atmosphere
  • Mentors account team members to achieve peak performance; anticipates & addresses performance issues quickly & directly
  • Supports strategic direction and desired culture of agency
  • Provides insight and partners with client to determine appropriate next steps in identifying appropriate comments for scientific content
  • Comfortable, confident, professional and poised when interfacing with KOLs, authors, study investigators and other experts including journal staff and professional association executives
  • Required: BA/BS - 4 year degree
  • Desired: BA/BS in Marketing, Communications, or Health Science, Biology, Masters in relevant field, additional relevant certifications
  • Required: 5+ years experience in a healthcare communications agency. Therapeutic area experience in specialty therapeutics/orphan diseases.
  • Desirable: Functional experience should include at least one of the following two: 1) medical publications, 2) promotional medical education and would benefit from additional experience in any of the following: 3) scientific exchange/KOL development, 4) continuing medical education, 5) professional advertising, 6) market research or 7) program evaluation/outcomes assessment. International experience.
