Job Description
Manages the advertising editorial department, overseeing work on an ongoing basis and ensuring quality control. Ensures all pieces are flawless grammatically and factually and that they comply with all AMA, client style, and FDA rules and regulations.
Required Skills
- Manages the advertising editorial department
- Develops SOP’s for the advertising editorial department by monitoring trends and agency workflow
- Participate in sponsored company initiatives for agency improvement
- Monitors billable hours reports on a monthly basis
- Teaches, encourages, and motivates editorial department leading by positive example
- Prepares and oversees fair and unbiased performance reviews for department
- Determines and oversees requirements for freelance help and books as necessary
- Provides back up to other members of the editorial department
- Responsible for distributing new data to staff members in conjunction with client approval
- Supervision of Editorial production to ensure flawless execution to ensure both content and visual quality are of the highest standard
- Develops opportunities for Editorial staff to work in conjunction with Copy personnel as to maintain billability
- Establishes solid working relationships with all team and department members as well as throughout the agency
- Edits initial round of job for all assigned accounts for content as well as for AMA style, client style, journal/book style, FDA rules and regulations, grammar, spelling, and consistency within the piece
- Fact checks initial round of job and subsequent rounds as necessary (has the ability to understand scientific and medical data to ensure copy accurately represents the source from which it was taken)
- Proofs several rounds of job at designated time points after initial edit through blues
- Creates and maintains comprehensive style guides for all assigned accounts
- Attends status and start-up meetings for all assigned accounts and those of the editorial department when necessary
- Attends client meetings as necessary
- Works in conjunction with QA group to devise plans for workflow efficiencies (i.e. timeline templates, hours trackers, routing stamps in conjunction with our process)
- Establish Peer to Peer relationship with internal client counterparts when possible
- Medical communications, medical publishing, or pharmaceutical agency background required
- Prior supervisory experience
- Strong leadership skills
- Excellent interpersonal and communications skills
- Familiarity with AMA style and FDA rules and regulations
- Proficient in basic grammar and spelling rules
- Knowledge of all proofing and editing symbols
- Ability to ensure scientific accuracy by fact checking all relevant copy
- Ability to work under pressure and prioritize tasks
- Superior organizational skills
- General computer proficiency
- BA required, plus 10+ years of experience required with at least 5 years in a supervisory role
