Position Description
The Manager of Advertising Services leads a team of specialists providing a variety of deliverables and services to our client’s affiliates. These deliverables and services are principally generated from requirements for accredited and nonaccredited educational program attendee recruiting, including the activities’ advertising campaigns. The Manager also provides leadership and management for the Advertising Services Department.
Expectations for this dynamic position include an experienced and innovative advertiser with proven results in attendance generation within the medical education and communications industry; including both certified and noncertified education programs/activities and their key outcomes. The Manager of Advertising Services must be able to ensure we achieve our program/activity attendee recruiting targets using appropriate advertising strategies. The end result is identifying and recruiting the right attendees for accredited and nonaccredited educational activities, thus facilitating valued outcome measurements. No longer is basic attendance (filling seats) a sufficient measurement. Success, in part, is driven through industry best practices validated by historical data - but innovation is key in this role. The Manager is also responsible to collect and validate program recruitment and advertising data, extrapolating it to our proprietary best practices.
The Manager of Advertising Services is a "roll-up-your-sleeves" leadership position; immersing self in the appropriate level of project work while also training, mentoring, growing, and inspiring innovation in a team of smart, energetic, and hard-working attendee recruiters and event advertisers. These responsibilities include general management of, and expert consultation on existing projects and new business opportunities, as well as employing formal processes and efficiencies in project work/timelines while demonstrating highly effective project management, organization, and communication skills. In the role of a functional project manager, motivational leadership will be expected with a focus on customer service, analysis, problem-solving, and implementation of innovative methods for executing all phases of recruiting/advertising projects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and oversee program/activity attendee recruitment and advertising activities, including print, online, electronic media, and direct mail
- Develop targeted campaigns
- Assist in the design and execution of campaigns
- Establish and manage relationships with vendors sustaining their high quality and service levels as well as exploring potential new services and support
- Direct and participate in list management - seeking new and enhanced lists while maintaining existing lists
- Capture and analyze key result data from advertising and promotional campaigns, including return response rate of mail, e-mail, and fax campaigns
- Develop metrics to measure department’s success in advertising outcomes
- Conduct ongoing market analysis to ensure we are providing the right core advertising services to meet client needs and prospective client needs
- Develop and grow new recruitment and advertising competencies
- Interface with internal and external customers as needed
- Manage day-to-day functions of Advertising Department, including approving expense reports and time sheets, resolving human resource issues, and prioritizing the resources of the department
- Direct staffing, training, and performance evaluations to develop and control advertising and marketing programs
- Plan and administer the department budget, including salary
- Conduct labor forecasting and staff to the forecast considering internal personnel and outside service providers
- Maximize the billable utilization of staff thus maximizing department profitability while contributing appropriately to corporate support, innovation, and other nonchargeable responsibilities
- Ensure effective control of program/activity advertising and recruiting results and take corrective action to guarantee that achievement of objectives falls within goals and designated budgets
- Participate with the Vice President and lead your department in establishing goals and key initiatives to achieve goals; develop individual plan and manage efforts by using a suite of planning documents
- Using Lean Six Sigma and Project Management Institute methodologies, ensure processes, procedures, and best practices are captured and formalized ensuring continuity of quality and efficiency
Desired Skill Sets
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a four-year college in business with an emphasis in advertising, business, and/or marketing
- MBA or master’s degree in related field preferred
- Ten to fifteen years of related experience, including leadership and management experience
- Understanding/experience in continuing medical education
- Understanding/experience in pharmaceutical commercialization and marketing process
- Experience in the life sciences a plus

- Demonstrated graphic design conceptualization and formatting that includes typesetting, photographic work, and logo placement
- Software experience in MS Office, MS Project, MS PowerPoint, Photoshop, Illustrator, Quark, and Acrobat
